I’ve never written a blog before, but I figured I would start by documenting one of the most special Christmas seasons I’ve had since I was a kid. We had tons of family here visiting, including a surprise visit from my dad and stepmom, Chris. They haven’t been able to make it down to NC since our move in ’08, so this year they decided to plan a trip. Everyone was tipped off that they were coming, except for me. So there I am. Friday 12/23, 8:15pm, Rolling out anise cookies with my MIL, having a glass of Merlot. My hubby Jared walks in the house and starts coaxing our two dogs to the bedroom which I thought was weird, but still didn’t realize what he was up to. The door bell rings. I ask him what’s going on, and he doesn’t answer. I was starting to get kind of mad. “Who is it??? What’s going on?” Still no answer..I look out the blinds and no one is there. thought it must be my FIL goofing around trying to scare me. I open the door and peek around the corner. “HEYYYY!” Two heads pop out in front of me. My dad and Chris. I was completely shocked. I love surprises, and this was a great one. We probably get to see each other once a year and it’s never long enough. 700 miles and almost 12 hours later, and there they were on my porch. I’m grateful we got to spend a lot of quality time together. This is them!
We’re fortunate to have My mom and stepdad (Ed) living next door and Jared’s parents downstairs from us. This is my mom and Ed, two people that will do just about anything for anyone…actually, all of our parents are that way and I mean that! I still need a picture of my inlaws!
Jared’s brother and his wife live down the road, and his Aunt Linda and Uncle Bob decided to stop in Christmas day on their way down to FL, which we were really happy about! It was really nice to have everyone together. We had Christmas eve dinner at my mom’s house and Christmas day at mine. Christmas evening, my brother and his family arrived and a few hours later my sister and her family got in! We had a couple of full houses for the week, but it was good! After my dad and Chris left, my brother’s family ‘moved in’. They have a teenager, a 7 yo and a 4 yo. Dustin, Isabella, and Sophia.
I decided to give the girls haircuts while they were here. They loved the ‘salon’ 🙂
My sister has a 2yo and a 6 mo baby, Drake and Joni. Oh yeah, and a sweet little puppy named Annie, the orphan dog ❤ Her husband was hunting most the time when I took these pictures so I don’t have a mug shot of him. Sorry Kerry! 🙂 I know you’re bummed out about that! lol
Here are my boys, Archie and Jefferson, and the love of my life Jared.
One night we went over to the NC Chinese Lantern Festival and walked around, its really not what I expected, but it was cool to see and the kids loved it!
Grandma Mary got to soak up time with her grandkids, can you tell she’s happy?
I suckered my brother Josh and his lovely wife Becky into taking a picture…
It’s tough living far away from family. We all rarely get to see each other, and we are NEVER all together at the same time. It was a great Christmas with them, not to mention that I got to spend my 30th birthday with them all around me too! These are memories I will definitely cherish forever.
